Our History & Mission
Sambalpur University, established in 1967 by the Government of Odisha, is a distinguished public university located in the vibrant city of Sambalpur. The university was founded with the vision to provide quality higher education and promote research in the region of Western Odisha. Over the decades, it has grown into a comprehensive institution offering a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs across arts, science, commerce, law, and management disciplines.
The mission of Sambalpur University is to create an environment of academic excellence that nurtures critical thinking, innovation, and ethical leadership. We aim to contribute to the socio-economic development of Odisha and India through education, research, and community engagement. Spread across a lush green campus of over 400 acres in Jyoti Vihar, the university boasts state-of-the-art infrastructure including modern classrooms, well-equipped laboratories, a central library with over 500,000 volumes, sports facilities, and residential accommodations for students and faculty. The campus is designed to foster a holistic learning experience, blending academic rigor with cultural and extracurricular activities.
The university is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and has been accredited with an 'A' grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
